NYC 4-6-4 #5352 - New York Central
Title:  NYC 4-6-4 #5352 - New York Central
Description:  Built by Alco-Schenectady in November of 1927 (NYC records show 12/1927), this 4-6-4 Hudson started out as Michigan Central #8207 (serial #67488). In 1936, the Michigan Central sold (?) it to NYC who renumbered it as NYC #5352. An additional booster was added which brought 10,900 lb more tractive effort. After serving both the MC & NYC for nearly 26 years, the loco was retired in June of 1953 and sold for scrap in September of 1953. Interestingly, the listed date for this photo is 10/17/1954 after the sold for scrap date This very well may be the last photo ever taken of the loco as it sat lined out in a scrap line. .Specs - 79" drivers, 225 psi boiler pressure, 25x28" cylinders, engine weight of 359,800 lb, tractive effort of 42,360 lb, booser tractive effort of 10,900 lb. Unknown photographer

The loco served for nearly 31 years before being retired in February of 1956. The photo was taken a month later so it wasn't immediately sent to the scrapper's torch. May be the last photo of this proud loco ever taken. NYC 4-6-4 #5451 - New York Central
Title:  NYC 4-6-4 #5451 - New York Central
Description:  Built by ALCo-Schenectady in April of 1938 originally as a NYC streamlined 4-6-4 Hudson #5451 (serial #68885), the streamline shrouding was removed in 1947. Nice to look at but according to most crews, a pain to service when the shroud was on. The loco lasted until retirement in February of 1956. Seen here a month later it has yet to be scrapped. Probably one of the last photos ever taken of it. Specs - originally streamlined, 79" drivers, impressive 265 psi boiler pressure, 22.5x29" cylinders, engine weight of 365,500 lb, tractive effort of 41,860 lb, booster unit tractive force of 12,100 lb. Unknown photographer.
