Title:
PRR 9608, AF-16, 1951
Description:
Dziobko. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by John Dziobko, Jr., that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 10 September 1951. Prominent among the dozen or so locomotives pictured here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9608, an AF-16 built by the American Locomotive Company in May of 1951, rated at 1,600 horsepower, and retired in July of 1966 after just 15 years of revenue service. All of these diesel-electric locomotives are parked at the 8th Street Bridge in Juniata, awaiting their next helper/pusher assignments up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and back. Photo taken from the 8th Street Bridge in Juniata. ("PrrFan18n")
