Description: |
Here is page three of a seven-page article by Sy Reich entitled "Pennsylvania Railroad Motive Power Roster." It was published originally in the August 1957 issue of "Railroad" magazine, page 55. Partial Caption: "Although the Pennsy did more than any other system to develop the steam engine, it now relies mostly on diesel-electrics. This Also-GE road switcher, Class AS-16ms, rests under a Pittsburgh coal and sand tower and water plug." Shown here is PRR engine #8856, an AS-16MS built by the American Locomotive Company in January of 1952, rated at 1,600 horsepower, and retired in October of 1967 after just 15 years of revenue service. |
