MDiv. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide via Al Chione that was taken near Marysville, Pennsylvania, on 28 October 1954. The photographer is not identified. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6779, an M-1B (4-8-2) "Mountain" built by the Lima Locomotive Works as an M-1A during March of 1930, rebuilt in Juniata as an M-1B in December of 1948, and retired in September of 1959 after 29 years of faithful service. It's just crossed the Susquehanna River via the Rockville Bridge and is on its way to Altoona and points West. ("Stoneborobranch"; #8 of 56) |

Both are "M" Class (4-8-2) "Mountains." #6779 is an M-1B built by the Lima Locomotive Works as an M-1A during March of 1930, rebuilt in Juniata as an M-1B in December of 1948, and retired in September of 1959. #6762 is an M-1B constructed in Juniata as an M-1A during July of 1930, rebuilt as an M-1B in April of 1946, and retired in September of 1959. Miscellanea. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Philip R. Hastings that was taken near Leolyn, Pennsylvania, on 2 December 1956. Shown here )L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #6779 and #6816. Both are Class "M" (4-8-2) "Mountain" locomotives. #6779 is an M-1B built by the Lima Locomotive Works as an M-1A during March of 1930, rebuilt in Juniata as an M-1B in December of 1948, and retired in September of 1959. #6816 is an M-1 built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during September of 1926 and retired in June of 1959. They're pushing a northbound coal train on a very cold day. Note the N-5 cabin car: it's lucky number 477777! This photo comes from a color slide set entitled "Steam on the Pennsy's Elmira and Shamokin Branches" that's produced and distributed by Blackhawk Films of Davenport, Iowa (785-2). |
