ICG 3036 |
Description: |
There was still some GM&O paint around in 1982, but check out the IC orange battery box covers! GM&O 713 was later ICG 9532, ASAB/BAYL 501. ICG 3036 was rebuilt to IC GP40R 3120. Date of photo approximate. |

Untouched GM&O |
Description: |
In October 1982 I went to Chicago for a trade show. It started on Monday, and I had some time to spend over the weekend. One place I went was Homewood, south of the city, to check out the IC. This unit was in the middle on a three unit set leading a northbound train into the yard. Still in full GM&O ten years after the merger. |

GM&O GP38 713 |
Description: |
Although owned by the Illinois Central Gulf for almost 14 years, this GP38 still looked like a Gulf Mobile & Ohio locomotive. It would eventually become ICG 9532 and then Atlanta & St. Andrews Bay second 500. |

ICG Mays Yard |
Description: |
Five locomotives, wearing four different paint schemes, were gathered around the engine house at the Illinois Central Gulf’s MAYS YARD, just west of New Orleans. In the front were GP38 713, still in its original Gulf Mobile & Ohio colors, coupled to ICG GP40 3039. Behind them were solid orange GP10 8229 with orange-and-gray GP11 8708, and behind them was a glimpse of an unidentified orange-and-white loco. |
