ICG GP10 8461
This unit was one of only a few Paducah-rebuilt geeps with a genuine EMD slanting low nose. The 8461 had been built as IC GP9 9305, and its frame number was confirmed as 5553-6. It was rebuilt as orange-and-white GP10 8461 in March 1977, with a standard ICG flat-top nose; but this was damaged in an accident at Bluford, Illinois in early 1979. The 8461 was repaired with an EMD low nose, probably from IC GP18 9423, and received the current orange-and-gray paint job and a new rebuild date of December 1979.

Ben Scanlon General All the information I can find online points to it being an IC GP9 that got the low nose as a part in the shops. Even has an IC order number, 5553. Cannot see how B&M comes into the picture. 4/3/2015 6:00:46 AM
Ben Scanlon General The loco's IC number was 9305, but clearly the hood was rebuilt as the rebuild has 4 x 36" fans rather than the 2 x 48" of the original. 4/3/2015 8:25:36 PM
