Phil Blakely General Beautiful shot, good looking unit! 1/14/2010 3:53:04 AM
Mark Carron General Although it is mentioned that this unit is Ex-TRRA and the current Granite City Steel #1189 probably IS Ex-TRRA, the unit pictured is not. I saw this unit up close in 1987 and it has the small frame mounted ovals above each axle with number/letter combination that were used on Northern Pacific units. It has a full length handrail along the hood; a small fuel tank; three lifting rings on the hood; and brackets for classification lights at the front corners of the hood. TRRA SW1200's had none of these items. Also, TRRA SW1200's had straight full length walkway handrails with six stanchions. This unit has a seven stanchion walkway handrail with an upward direction at the cab end by the door. I have looked at pictures on the internet and the walkway handrails were probably added by NP or BN. There is a 2012 picture of Granite City Steel #1189 and it is definitely not the unit pictured. It's identifying features are clearly more like TRRA SW1200's. This unit may have swapped number 6/5/2014 6:14:53 PM
