Note the 35 ton crane at upper right, used for lifting and moving cars in the shop for maintenance and overhaul. Until Sperry moved to Shelton in 2018, this was the company headquarters and home base for Sperry's rail car fleet across North America. Sperry's inspection rail cars were maintained in the Danbury shop and several cars in the SRS fleet were assembled in the Danbury shops using shells supplied by various builders. With Sperry diversifying with hi-rail truck fleets, the truck fleet is now based in Shelton, with the rail cars at the facility in National City, Illinois (across the river from St. Louis). |
