Amtrak. Here is the second of six successive original photos that I took at the Virginia Railway Express L'Enfant Plaza Passenger Station in Southeast Washington, DC, on 20 June 1992. Shown here is the tail end of an Amtrak passenger train pulled by engine #348, an F40PH built by GM-EMD in November of 1980 and rated at 3,200 horsepower. This nine-car train has just departed Union Station and has roared through the tunnels under Washington's streets on its way to Richmond and points South. Partially visible at the far left is the top of the George Washington National Monument. |
