Louisville & Nashville engineer Ernest Harper was waving to some photographers as he accelerated north out of the railroad’s GENTILLY YARD in New Orleans. The train was powered by U30C 1556, SD40 1236 and U30C 1562, with L&N caboose 1360 cut into the train and Southern Pacific caboose 1734 on the rear. When this photo was taken, 6-axle locomotives were not very common on the L&N in New Orleans. |
