Mann. Here is the first of two original photos that were taken near Orangeville, Maryland, on 23 October 1949. Note the photographer's shadow at the lower left-hand corner of the photo. The photographer's name and the road number of the Pennsylvania Railroad K-5 (4-6-2) "Pacific" steam locomotive pictured here are not recorded. Many thanks to Mr. Robert Hess for identifying this locomotive correctly. (Gift from Brad Mann.)

Robert Hess General This photo (as well as the second one) show one of the two K5 Pacifics. They were the only 4-6-2s to receive Worthington feedwater heaters - note the appliances behind the stack and below the running board. When the front of the engines was modernized, the bell was relocated on a bracket below the platform on the smokebox front, as shown in both images.. 5/8/2021 12:09:53 PM
