Southern Pacific GS-6 4-8-4 at the National Museum of Transportation in St. Louis, MO. This class was nicknamed "War Babies" because they were made during WWII. The SP wanted more like the previous GS-5 passenger oriented engine but the War Production Board didn't allow that. So this was made with smaller drivers to be "dual purpose". |
