L&N Train No. 7
Southbound Louisville & Nashville local No. 7 had just crossed the main line of the Southern Railway at N.O.& N.E Tower (milepost 802.7) on its way into New Orleans, and was approaching the Southern’s New Orleans Terminal Co. crossing at N.O.T. Tower (milepost 803.7). The train was powered by K-4 class 4-6-2 234, which had been built at the railroad's South Louisville Shops in 1917. New FP7 diesels officially replaced steam power on No. 7 about four months after this photo was taken, on 27 July 1951; the 234 was retired on 16 October 1951 and the train was discontinued on 23 June 1953.
