| A CN local, with about 13 cars, approaches Towmen Rd. as it heads southwest via former Soo Line (SOO) rails at Shawano Junction, Fox Crossing (originally Town of Menasha, WI, from 1855 until 14 Apr. 2016), Winnebago Co., WI on 18 May '19. Local was headed back to Neenah from Shawano. The name of the road is misspelled Towman on the signal relay case. This spot used to be named Fox River Junction, after several segments of the original C&NW main line through Menasha and Neenah were removed and a turnout was installed here (out-of-frame to the right) which allows the bypass of missing C&NW rails by using former SOO rails. The Hwy. 41/Hwy. 10/Hwy. 441 (a.k.a. Tri-County Expressway) interchange (a.k.a. Polish Connection) can be seen in the background. The interchange opened to traffic on 30 Nov. '75, at the time it was simply a bridge to provide access to Hwy. 41 from Menasha. When Hwy. 10 was reconstructed and relocated ca. '97, this interchange was not simultaneously reconstructed to form a full interchange. It was recently reconstructed and expanded; the new, now full interchange was dedicated on 11 Jul. '18. |
