PRR 6760, M-1B, 1952
Hintingdon. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Nelson Bowers that was taken just East of Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, on 31 August 1952. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6870, an M-1B (4-8-2) "Mountain" built in Juniata as an M-1A during 1930, rebuilt as an M-1B in May of 1948, and retired in September of 1959 after 29 years of faithful service. It is pulling a merchandise freight train from Enola to Altoona and points West. A portion of US Route 22 ~ the "William Penn Highway" ~ is visible at the left.
