PC GP40 #3182 - Penn Central  Contributor's Pick!
This 1968 EMD built GP40 has several points of distinction. First, it bares the "colored worms" Penn Central logo, not many locos carried that. Most were just plain white. Second, on August 21, 1969, barely a year and a half after delivery, it got loose from the South Bay yard and ran across the I-93 Expressway in Boston, cutting deep grooves in the pavement and ending up blocking both directions. Quite a history. It did go on to the Conrail roster and eventually the New Jersey Transit. Date and location are approximate. Unknown photographer.
