Birmingham. Here is an original photo that I took of a Penn Central Railroad train near Union Furnace, Pennsylvania, during May of 1968. Shown here (R to L) are PC engines #4278 and another unit whose number is not recorded. Both are E-8A's built by GM-EMD and rated at 2,250 horsepower each. #4278 was built in September of 1952; its original Pennsylvania Railroad number was "5708." They are pulling a six-car eastbound passenger train from Pittsburgh to Huntingdon, Lewistown, and Harrisburg. This photo was taken where the tracks bridge the Little Juniata River west of the stone quarry crossing, just off of State Route 453. |
