PRR 5796  Contributor's Pick!       
An unknown photographer caught PRR 5796 pulling a very long string of varnish through the Chicago Union Station yard. Note the spiked radio antenna extending down the A and B units. Eventually this unit would be renumbered 4256. Unknown photographer.

Alan Fricker General The antenna you're refering to is the PRR's trainphone system. They used it until adopting radios in the early 1960s. I wonder if this isn't the one of the unnamed mail trains-there's what appears to be a mix of head end cars in the middle of the train. 11/5/2015 11:11:54 PM
