Recently BNSF has been moving a majority of their former Santa Fe warbonnets around on the system, many ending up in Amory, MS. So hearing that BNSF 603 is online and working a Galesburg to Tulsa freight, I grabbed the camera a jumped out to the tracks. With expectations of catching one of the last operational C44-9W warbonnets in the superfleet paint, this was not what I had expected to see rolling second out on the H-GALTUL9 14A on the BNSF Hannibal Sub. near Orchard Farm, Mo. Although, here we see what will become of all the old Santa Fe Dash 9s, the newly rebuilt and freshly painted BNSF 603. The new model is titled an AC44C4M, complete with the C4 truck arrangements and a typical AC4400 electrical cabinet on the conductors side. Granted its nice to see the old girl getting new life but Id rather see it in warbonnet red and silver. |
