| The rails between Ripon and Oshkosh were laid in 1875 by the Oshkosh and Mississippi Railwaiy. This right of way was in turn leased to the Chicago Milwaukee and St. Paul (Milwaukee Road) for an agreement of twenty years. It eventually just became a part of the Milwaukee. This timber trestle is located between Elo and Fisk along this line. The trestle allows a local farmer access to his fields through a fill cutting across the lower area. I am not sure if this trestle was included in the initial construction of the line in 1875, but it obviously predates the large farm equipment in use today. Interestingly, on another road near here, a large culvert was used as a tunnel for livestock to pass under a road between fields. |
