#800290 THE OBSERVATORY         
Built in 1954 by Budd in Lot #9646-141 as CB&Q dome 46 seat chair #558, 1 of 10 such cars built in that Lot, which was ordered in March 1953 for the NORTH COAST LIMITED; cars were delivered between June and August 1954. NP owned 7 (#550-#556), CB&Q owned 2 (#557-#558), and SP&S owned 1 (#559). These 10 cars were intended to be renumbered as BN #4617-#4626, but these numbers were not applied. Sold in 1971 to Amtrak as #9477-#9486. In 1983, Amtrak converted 9 of these 10 cars to HEP #9400-#9408, #9485 was converted to HEP #9406 in June 1983. Retired and sold in 1995 to Tom McOwen's Cincinnati Railway Company. Leased between 1998 and 2000 to Grand Canyon RY as #2097 KOKOPELLI (1st), then reconfigured to dome 3DB sleeper diner lounge and renamed THE OBSERVATORY.
