Boston-bound Penn Central express led by a GG-1 locomotive on Hell Gate Bridge, 1972. The GG-1 will hand over its train to a pair of E-8 diesels at New Haven to finish the run to B-town. In the 1940s all four tracks on Hell Gate Bridge were electrified -- by 1972 only the two express tracks are stiil underr wire. Today there are only two tracks on the bridge. Ektachrome by Stephen C.
