B&O 0-8-0 57 "Memnon" - Baltimore & Ohio RR  Contributor's Pick!       
Built in 1848 by the Newcastle Manufacturing Co in Delaware, this 0-8-0 is one of the oldest surviving American frreight locomotives. During the Civil War it was used to haul troops and supplies for the Union army and thus given the nickname "Old War Horse".
