On October 20/21, 1990, the Michigan State Trust for Railway Preservation and CSXT ran the 1225 on freight trains between Plymouth and Grand Rapids, MI, to see how well the locomotive performed on the mainline. This was done to see if she could make it down to Huntington, WV for the following year's NRHS Convention.
