BWCX. Here is the fifth of five original 35mm color slides (converted to B&W) that were taken at the Berwind-White Railroad Car Shops in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, on 12 April 1960. Prominent here is the Vulcan 0-4-0T steam locomotive named "Nancy." The builder's badge indicates "Vulcan Locomotive Works ~ 1918." In this context, "Nancy" is shifting Transport Leasing Company's car #172, an F-85B flatcar capable of carrying two highway trailers. Once upon a time, this was the middle leg of a fully-functioning "wye" that was connected on two ends with the Pennsylvania Railroad; the third leg (visible here behind "Nancy") led to Berwind-White's Car Shops. |
