MILW GP30 346, Bensenville, Illinois, February 14, 1965, photo by Chuck Zeiler. Built in June 1963 (c/n 27742) on EMD Order 7656, it was renumbered to 1006 and sold for scrap to Precision National in August 1984. It is riding on what are commonly referred to as AAR Type B trucks (although the ARR had no such designation) from Alco RS3's. However, the RS3's were not retired and traded in. Rather, the Milwaukee retired some of its Alco S2 switchers, removed the Blunt trucks and installed them under the RS3's. I'm not sure if the switchers and trucks went to EMD in trade or if just the Type B trucks were shipped to EMD for installation on the new GP30's. |
