Built in January 1948 as UP F3 1412A (c/n 4617) on EMD Order E818A, it was renumbered to 1412, then renumbered to 1519. During September 1958, it was rebuilt by EMD to F9M 539, retaining most the the F3 carbody features, but now sporting F9 type intake louvers. During February 1972 it was sold to the Rock Island, becoming 4168, traded to EMD finally in mid-1976. According to Utahrails.net, "Nineteen units were sold to CRI&P in 1972 in trade for a like number of former CRI&P units that UP sent to EMD as trade-in for its 1972 order of SD40-2's." |
