Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad Budd Cab Car 790, eastbound at Congress Park, Illinois on June 11, 1965, photo by Chuck Zeiler. I believe this to be the first revenue run of a Budd Cab-Control car on the CB&Q. This car was received by the CB&Q during May-June 1965, the first of six such cab-equipped bi-level commuter coaches on the Burlington. It was built by Budd (Job 9655-370), had 139 seats and a toilet. I was living in Naperville when I heard a Dinky (commuter train) leave the Naperville station, but the clickity-clack preceded the sound of dual 567's, which caught my attention. I saw this train and immediatly grabbed my camera and jumped into my '56 Chevy and headed for Downers Grove. The train departed the Downers Grove station as I arrived, so I continued on to Clarendon Hills, missed it there, and at Hinsdale, so I headed for LaGrange. As I arrived at LaGrange, I could see the train departing the station, so I continued down Ogden Avenue, ducked under the tracks, found a place to park and scampered up the embankment. The train was on top of me the moment I got to the top, and I only had time to push the shutter button, resulting in this image. |
