Very lucky catch here Tom. Every time I see export locomotives, they are tarped.

this loco is an ES44DCi bound for west australia and has enlarged radiator cab for tier 2 emisions and to cope with the constant 110 deg heat and 98+ humidity in the harsh north western australian desert they are also built on an ac6000 frame and have cd players and microwave ovens!,and are about 3" lower in overall height from the standard es44dc ,later they were fitted with special sheilds on the nose that fold up when being used in mid-train when running forward to stop the windsheilds getting sand blasted by stray iron ore dust.

Derek, just a friendly note regarding the Rio Tinto ES44DCi.Up to the microwave ovens sounds correct.BHP Billiton Iron Ore had their big GE AC6000CW's equipped with the folding windscreen protectors for Distributed Power Unit Operation. We at Rio Tinto Iron Ore only have manned "Bankers" or "Pushers" which are detached enroute from the Mines.I think the Rio Evo's are standard height where the BHP units have height restrictions.Nice to see 8111 brand new without the red Pilbara dust and iron ore grime Tom.Well done.
