Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #4396 and #1638. #4396 is an I-1SA built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an I-1S during February of 1923, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in December of 1943, and retired in March of 1956. #1638 is an L-1S (2-8-2) "Mikado" built in Juniata during March of 1917 and retired in November of 1958. They are hauling a mineral train down the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Altoona and points East. |

It is bordered on west, north, and east by Oshkosh, and bordered on the south by the Town of Nekimi. The Oshkosh boundary is about 1,500 feet northeast of the station sign. Train had three locomotives, WAMX 3894, WAMX 3869 and WAMX 3870. I was surprised to find this train here. I was even more surprised to see it still sitting here the following day. A CN container train approaches Kampo Rd. as it heads southwest via a remnant of the former C&NW main line at Neenah, WI on 8 Mar. '18. Train had two locomotives, CN 2598 and PRLX 211 (former BNSF, former ATSF). I don’t get to see Warbonnets very often. Neenah Foundry Plant 2 & Plant 3 loom in the background. Plant 2 opened in 1960 and Plant 3 was built in 1967. Plant 1 opened in 1918 and stood about a mile to the north, until it was closed in 1994 and eventually demolished. I am curious to learn where the two new turnouts (stacked in pieces between the tracks) will be installed. The former SOO main line is in the foreground. |
