Description:
Extra Board. Here is a clipping entitled "Rail Midget and Giant" that compares mine with mainline motive power. It was published originally in a 1952 issue of "Popular Mechanics," page 126. The "Midget" in the foreground is a battery-powered mine shifter built by General Electric. The "Giant" in the background is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #4941, an E-2B electric constructed by GE in June of 1951, rated at 2,500 horsepower, and retired in June of 1965 after just 14 years of experimental service.

Top Photo: Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #4941, an E-2B electric built by General Electric in June of 1951, rated at 2,500 horsepower and retired in June of 1965. Bottom Photo: Shown here is PRR engine #4995, an E-3B electric built by Baldwin-Westinghouse in June of 1951, rated at 3,000 horsepower, and retired in June of 1965.
