The lead power of the second southbound TXUX train I saw this day approaches College Av in Neosho behind a BNSF and two KCS units. On the rear is a another BNSF unit and two Mexican units for the 135 loads going south. KCS operating practice has changed over time, though now the trains are longer. For a long time, they were 125 cars on this run. The latest few I have seen are in the 135 car range, and running the power 3x3, instead of 2x3 they had been doing with 125 car trains. For the last couple of years, the power has been home road in a 2x1 configuration, with KCS adding two units as rear DPUs, after several years of mid train DPUs, two units cut in about 85 cars deep. |

Twice in two weeks, we headed north to see what we could find; twice we stopped at Caseys in Anderson for a short break, only to have a southbound Q train come by while we were there. Same story, caught him along MO 59 south of Anderson, which is a stunningly good view of a train going south, and also north as you get toward sunset. Southbound Q train, and the chase is on. We followed him to Watts. |

I never gave Sulphur Springs much thought. The good shots there are off the Arkansas 59 overpass north of town, and in town on the bridge over Butler Creek. I never took the time to explore for other spots, as there didnt seem to be much. My wife was with me this day, and wanted to look around town some, since we had not, largely because Sulphur Springs seems to be the town that time forgot. We saw a side street that looked like it headed for the tracks. and she saw a RR crossing sign. So off we went. The shot of a northbound there is straight on, but the southbound shot there is coming through a high car detector, which we see here with the Q train rolling though. |
