CRI&P F9M 4164 |
Description: |
Rock Island F9M 4164 sometime in 1976 in eastern Oklahoma, Ektachrome by Steve Laser, Chuck Zeiler collection. This is a slide I acquired in trade, there were no markings on the slide mount. The only locomotive I can identify for sure is the trailing unit. Number 4164 was built in January 1948 as UP F3 1415A ( c/n 4620 ) on EMD Order E818A. It was renumbered to 1415, then renumbered again to 1517. During January 1959 it was rebuilt by EMD to F9M 534, retaining most of the F3 carbody features, sold to the Rock Island in February 1972, becoming 4164, and was traded to EMD in mid-1976. Paul L. Strang notes that F7 124 was leading. |
