NKP 765-POP!
Title:  NKP 765-POP!
Description:  Look closely and you can see the plume of steam shooting a long ways into the sky after the safety valve popped. The steam plume is between the cab and the large box or "dome" on the top. Sorry, folks, the white steam just didn't show up very well against that hazy and humid July sky!

RPCX 250001, auxiliary water tender
Title:  RPCX 250001, auxiliary water tender
Description:  This water tender or auxiliary water car is coupled to NKP 765, part of Trainfest 2011, at Rock Island, IL; 7-23-2011. I don't know the previous history of this water tender, the capacity, etc. ADDITIONAL NOTE: Thanks to Jerry LaBoda for helping identify this extra tender as a former L&N item. Also, I was able to delete the category from "locomotive", to no category. This was something that I didn't think was possible.

Title:  BNSF 6688, engineer's side view, Trainfest 2011
Description:  Several diesel locomotives were static displays during Trainfest 2011 in Rock Island, IL. BNSF 6688 was one of these, parked near the US Hwy 67 (Centennial) Bridge linking Rock Island, IL and Davenport, IA. This view shows the engineer's side view, from an angled perspective. Trainfest 2011 was a great event!

Title:  BNSF 6688, close-up view of cab
Description:  This photo of BNSF 6688, at Trainfest 2011 in Rock Island, IL, is a close-up view of the cab. The unit was a static display so the gentleman walking near the tracks is not in any danger--except, maybe, from the heat!

CPRR 63, Leviathan, at Train Fest 2011
Title:  CPRR 63, Leviathan, at Train Fest 2011
Description:  We're looking at the engineer's side of Central Pacific #63, called Leviathan. This engine was a big hit at the 2011 Train Fest. She was surely one of the most beautiful displays there. I don't have any other information as to builder, date of construction, etc., but I was glad to see an engine like this. ADDITIONAL NOTE: thanks to John Teeter, who provided excellent supplemental material regarding this engine.

CPRR 63, Leviathan, looking eastward
Title:  CPRR 63, Leviathan, looking eastward
Description:  CPRR 63, called Leviathan, faces east towards Rock Island, IL during Train Fest 2011. This view is angled to show the front of the engine, with the ornate headlight and bracket, brass dome, whistle, bell, and so forth. A beautiful engine. Many engines like this (thousands?) were built, but only a few survive, and they'll always remind us of railroading's early days. Thanks to everyone who brought this engine to the Quad Cities that we might enjoy these memories.

C&NW 411, front view
Title:  C&NW 411, front view
Description:  C&NW 411, an EMD F-7A unit, was part of the exhibits at Train Fest 2011. This photo shows a front view, where the headlight is in the nose door, the upper headlight housing has a warning bell or gong or whatever it was called (I'm not very familiar with C&NW power), and the classic yellow-and-green paint scheme.

C&NW 411, rear view
Title:  C&NW 411, rear view
Description:  I tried to get a full view of C&NW 411's rear panel but this was as good as I could get. We can still see the overhang over the rear light and door, the handrails on the right side, various hoses and cables, and white handrails. There are also a couple of extra exhaust stacks (?) near the extreme rear of the unit. EMD built thousands of F-units and I'm glad this one's a survivor.

FLAGG Coal# 75, engineer's side
Title:  FLAGG Coal# 75, engineer's side
Description:  Flagg Coal Company's 0-4-0T #75 was part of the exhibits at Train Fest 2011. I don't remember if the engine was "live" or under its own power at the time, but it was great to see even a few steam locomotives in existence.

IAIS 701, engineer's side
Title:  IAIS 701, engineer's side
Description:  IAIS 701, a GP38-2. was part of the equipment at Train Fest 2011. This view shows the engineer's side, featuring the yellow-and-black diagonal stripes, the multi-chime air horn near the rear fans, and some of the attendees who, strangely, seem to be ignoring this unit. This engine is facing east and I believe it was getting ready for an excursion to Wilton, IA and return.
