Album Info:I visited the Williams Grove Railroad with my two grandsons in the midst of an east coast heat wave. We were hoping to get a ride in the cab of steam locomotive 643, ex-PRR, and the only former PRR steam locomotive that's still operating. The day was deemed too hot by the WGRR volunteers to have visitors in the locomotive cab while operating, so we had a fun ride in the caboose instead. The Williams Grove Railroad is one of Pennsylvania's lesser-known steam train rides. It's on the property of the Williams Grove Historical Steam Engine Association a few miles southwest of Harrisburg. It's one of the assortment of Threshers Fairground railroads that preserve historical railroading and steam traction artifacts. It's a short back-and-forth ride over about a mile of standard gage track that's not connected to the national railroad network. As such, you can easily chase this train on foot.
