GCRR Shay 1925 |
Description: |
Graham County Railroad Shay 1925 was built by Lima in 1925 and used on the GCRR until well into the diesel era. The GCRR ceased operations in 1970 and a tourist line - the Bear Creek Scenic Railroad - took over from 1974 to about 1977. This unit, looking forlorn and derilict in this shot, was donated to the North Carolina Transportation Museum in 1988 and in 1998 she was restored to operational condition, where she has been used in recent years to pull trains on the Great Smoky Mountain Railway and at the NCTM. |
