Album Info:The CWRC was the designated operator of the former Milwaukee Road branch between Waukesha and Milton Junction. When the Chicago Madison & Northern ceased operation, CWRC took over operations greatly expanding their system. Affiliated with the CWRC was the Wisconsin Western (WIWR) which operated the Prairie du Chien branch and the Elkhorn & Walworth which operated portions of the Milwaukee's "Southwestern" and Janesville-Chicago line. Derailments and lower than expected carloadings plagued the CWRC. By March of 1984 the system had accumulated $1.1 million in debt. In December, 1984, the CWRC system filed bankruptcy and it's liability insurance was cancelled and the railroad ceased operations on December31, 1984.

Description:  CWRC 1211 at Monroe. During the summers of 1983 & 1984, the City of Monroe and Green County began complaining about the numerous grass fires started by Central Wisconsin trains. The City and County blamed faulty railroad equipment and noted WIWR 1204 and CWRC 783 were the main causes. The Central Wisconsin blamed the dry summers. The outcome??? Central Wisconsin renumbered the 1204 to 1207, and renumbered the 783 to 1211 to confuse local fire officials!
