Title:
BSVY 17
Description:
Boone & Scenic Valley 17, formerly of the Crab Orchard & Egyptian and other roads, stands on display at the B&SV grounds in Boone, IA. I missed the afternoon train by just a few minutes but consoled myself by taking a few pictures before returning to Des Moines, where we lived in those days.

BSVY 38, ex-South Shore car
Description:
I'm not sure whether to call this MU car an engine or rolling stock, as the pantographs are not installed. BSVY 38 is one of several former Chicago South Shore and South Bend cars at the B&SV museum in Boone, IA. Date is uncertain.

BSVY 6540
Description:
BSVY 6540 was parked near the station, facing east, but I don't recall how many cars it was pulling that day or when the train was supposed to leave. Anyway, I thought this made for a classic steam-to-diesel transition era-style photo of an F unit near a wooden water tank. Maybe someday I can ride that train!

BSVY 1003
Description:
BSVY 1003 was parked on a siding near an enginehouse or maintenance building (not sure) on the B&SV grounds in Boone, IA around September 6, 2009 (approximately). That afternoon sun and shadows definitely had an effect on this photo.

BSVY caboose
Description:
This BSVY caboose (former C&NW?) was still on trucks and rail but roped off at the ends. I don't remember what it was used for but that air conditioner is definitely a plus during Iowa's usually warm summers! I couldn't find a number for this car and didn't get a chance to explore it. Maybe someday. Date approximate.

C&NW 12566, rear truck, looking east
Description:
This view of C&NW 12566 is a close-up of the rear truck. You may be able to read the cast or embossed information on the truck sideframe. There are a couple of plaques on the caboose body but my camera didn't get too good of an image.

B&SV, ex-C&NW 11068, looking southwest
Description:
C&NW 12566 is a former C&NW bay-window caboose, still in C&NW colors. It was parked on a siding just east of the Boone and Scenic Valley Museum facilities. Previous history unknown, and I don't know if this particular car is used on any of the B&SV trains.

B&SV, ex-C&NW 11068, end platform view
Description:
B&SV 11068 was parked on a siding, just east of the B&SV station, on September 3, 2011, a cool and rainy Saturday. This view shows the red flashing light, white handrails, numbers painted in black above the door, the (screened?) door, and perhaps other things. I don't know if this car was used in excursion train service, but I'd sure like to ride on it!

BSVY, ex-C&NW 11136, 9-03-2011
Description:
C&NW 11136 was coupled to Boone and Scenic Valley steam engine JS 8914, just before the train heads out of Boone for one of the Saturday excursion trains. I'm sure that the people who rode this car wish they could have kindled a fire in the stove on that wet, cool, Saturday afternoon!

BSVY, ex-C&NW 12517, end view
Description:
This view of C&NW 12517, an open-air platform car (!) and, perhaps, transfer caboose, shows the end view. The car has wooden benches for seating, and sturdy steel handrails with steel mesh for safety on excursions. The "box" or enclosed area didn't have much in the way of "creature comfort" but it was good to step inside when it rained!

Boone & Scenic Valley, ex-C&NW 12517, closeup of seating view
Description:
C&NW 12517, an open-air platform car and possible former transfer caboose has wooden benches like this one at both ends, as seen in this view. The car was (is?) part of the excursion fleet for the Boone and Scenic Valley Museum, taking passengers out and back on former C&NW trackage near Boone, IA. These passengers are preparing for the second ride, as the B&SV ran (runs?) two trips every Saturday.

Boone and Scenic Valley unknown red caboose

This bay window caboose is painted red but didn't have a number anywhere that I could see. It wasn't open to visitors when I was there on a Saturday afternoon. I don't know anything about the bell that was on display near this caboose, neither the green switch stand.

BSVY ex-Rock Island 17051, rear view, looking east
Description:
This view of Boone and Scenic Valley's ex-Rock Island caboose, #17051, shows one of the rear sections. I didn't know, for example, that this caboose has at least a couple of air horns and the white treads on the ladder. The rear of the tender is visible through the open doors.

Description:
This view of BSVY 244, painted as M&StL 244, shows the long hood facing west. I'm guessing this was the engineer's side because that sure looks like a control stand visible through the window and that I've seen photos of other RS-1's set up to run long hood forward as well.

Need an idea for "super detailing" a model flat car? Just try this! This car, whose identity I don't know, was parked a little ways away from the main grounds of the Boone & Scenic Valley Museum. I don't know how long that car had been parked there but I'm guessing it's been a while.
