Title:  Climbing
Description:  413 has a good roll on as it climbs toward Belden tunnel. It will need whatever momentum it has, since the climb stiffens considerably in a mile or so.

Should get a good roll
Title:  Should get a good roll
Description:  Train 413 is pulling past the Agway mill at BX, the rear of his train clearing BD and the Southern Tier Line, passing the power for D 22, a pair of D&H GP 38's today. He has only 48 cars today, with plenty of power. This should be an easy trip to the tunnel, if there is such a thing.

Flags and a visitor
Title:  Flags and a visitor
Description:  The flags were not a big deal. Even after CP stopped repainting its diesels in the "Dual Flags" scheme, they showed up in it for some time after. The visitor was the second unit. While not unheard of on CP, Guilford power was something of an anomaly. This set is northbound on 413 at Depot Rd

Working uphill
Title:  Working uphill
Description:  Train 168 works hard behind an ex Conrail SD 50 and a GE as it rolls a mix of 107 TOFC cars and stack platforms toward Belden tunnel. This was not an uncommon train length for this move. Eventually, it was split into two trains, the added schedules being 22K/23K, running to Ayer, with 205/206 running to a new facility at Mechanicville on the site of the old B&M yard there.

No, its not Wisconsin
Title:  No, its not Wisconsin
Description:  A trio of SOO units lead 253 north at Bainbridge. Its an interesting mix of power, with one of SOOs 5 SD60Ms leading, and a pair of straight SD60's for power. The now closed Jennison power plant rises in the background. This scene has changed over the years. Note how the trees have grown up compared to shots taken in the 80s elsewhere in this album.

413 rolls through BX
Title:  413 rolls through BX
Description:  At one time, this location was BX tower, where the D&H crossed the DLW Syracuse & Utica lines. Its been modified quite a bit since then-the ex DLW is now a switching lead for the fzed plant, and the DLW YO yard is long gone. Even the D&H Bevier St yard is a shadow of itself. Train 413 starts north to Montreal, passing the Agway plant here with 73 cars.

Tiptoe thru the tulips
Title:  Tiptoe thru the tulips
Description:  OK, so its Queen Annes Lace, but that doesnt make a good song lyric. A 253 is working 76 cars uphill at Nowlan Rd in Sanitaria Springs behind a set of SDs picking their way through the floral splendor. This is the same train as in "Big Sky" but with a different angle and focal length. How much difference a change in perspective makes.

Three of them
Title:  Three of them
Description:  There were relatively few units painted for the CP eastern lines subsidiary, called St Lawrence & Hudson, which encompassed the D&H and lines east of Montreal. Some of those were captive to the D&H-a handful of GP 38s and some GP 9us as well as a handful of SD 40s. It was not common to see them together for some reason, even the captive power. Occasinally, two would be on the same train; this was a rarity, D 22 rolling south with three STLH units.

Kicking it up
Title:  Kicking it up
Description:  CP 164 kicks up a good rooster tail as it approaches Nowlan Rd. The train is a little more distinct now that the heavy snow a few miles back has eased. In a moment it will pass the detector at MP 607, and in another ten will be asking for permission through BD.

Solo GE
Title:  Solo GE
Description:  One of the major advances of the GEs was the AC motors, which eliminated the issues with low speed operation. They were slow to come to the D&H, which seemed to be the repository for every SD40-2 left on the system. Heres one showing its advantage, a single unit with train D 152 working north
