Ice, Eagles and a Swing Bridge |

The swing portion of the KCS bridge over the Mississippi River is open, in spite of the ice on the river on the day before Christmas. That's a Bald Eagle flying over the structure, another one sits on the ice just below the left side of the bridge. Hundreds of the birds winter in the area annually. |

Still Waiting For Trains in Auxvasse |
Description: |
Although the Ozark Valley RR took control of the KCS' Mexico to Fulton MO branch about a year ago; trains have yet to run south of the Mexico industrial park. This is Auxvasse, about 11 miles south of Mexico on the 24 mile branch. This line was opened in 1872 by the Chicago & Alton from Mexico to a point across from Jefferson City called Cedar City. It's subsequently been owned by at least seven other railroads. The portion south of Fulton was abandoned in 1933. The elevator itself was removed in 2010-11. |

Hanlibal Depot |
Description: |
This is the former CB&Q passenger depot in Hannibal MO. Located on Main Street, it opened in 1954, replacing a much larger structure (Hannibal Union Station) that was at the same location and knocked down in 1953. The last scheduled passenger t|ain to use this building was the remnant of the St. Louis to Minneapolis Zephyx Rocket, which was pulled in April 1967. The tracks don't even run by it anymore, having been isolated by the levee and walls#behind it and other track rebuilding projects. It's still in use today however, as a business. |

Columbia Terminal GP7U 2001 |
Description: |
Columbia Terminal's "Big unit" sits on a siding along Browns Station Road just north of Columbia MO in Aug 2009. The paint scheme is a classy nod to the line's Wabash predecessor. Their other locomotive is an SW1200 that can usually be found inside the fence of the city's power plant. |

When You Can't See the Railroad for the Trees |
Description: |
This is the southern leg of the BNSF wye at Mark, MO. (actually the north switch is Mark, the east is Falk, the west is North River, but we'll call it Mark here) Located about five miles south of the yard at West Quincy, it connects the Hannibal Sub ("the K-Line") with the Brookfield Sub. This view shows as it curves to the west; the signal protecting this point is situated behind the photographer and still stands while dutifully illuminated in red although there seems to be no chance of traffic headed for Hannibal off this line anytime soon. For an earlier picture of this same piece of trackage on RRPA.NET, Gary Dyehouse shot it in 2002 when the trees were considerably less dense. |
